The AI for Local Government Show and Tell brings together local government officials working with AI to share experience from live projects, pilots, and implementation. The workshop focuses on what is being learned through practice: where AI is producing value, where projects encounter organisational or technical barriers, how professional roles and human judgement are affected, and what good evaluation and governance look like as adoption matures.
As local authorities move from early experimentation with AI towards deployment in public services, they are encountering practical questions about where AI is useful, how it should be integrated into existing workflows, and what capabilities and safeguards are needed for responsible adoption.

The event forms part of ai@cam’s wider work on AI adoption in local government. By bringing practitioners working on different problems and in different institutional settings into conversation, it provides an opportunity to identify common patterns across individual projects and to distinguish challenges associated with particular technologies from those arising from organisational structures, data, skills, procurement or existing ways of working.
The insights generated through this work contribute to ML@CL’s research on AI for Policy and AI Adoption, helping to build an empirical understanding of how public institutions develop the capacity to adopt AI effectively while maintaining accountability and human judgement.
