Royal Society convenes DELVE for COVID-19 data analysis

On 17 April 2020 the Royal Society announced DELVE — Data Evaluation and Learning for Viral Epidemics — a multidisciplinary group to analyse emerging national and international data on COVID-19 responses and feed findings into SAGE.
Neil Lawrence served across the action team, working group and steering committee. Jessica Montgomery, then a senior policy adviser at the Royal Society, was a key member of the DELVE secretariat from inception until her move to Cambridge in September 2020. Andrei Paleyes joined the action team, contributing later to modelling software and open datasets.
The group’s remit was to complement the UK’s strategic evidence base: compare measures across countries, use new data as it appeared, and coordinate with other research efforts. Outputs through 2020 are collected on the DELVE site and summarised on the lab’s DELVE project page.
